GO BEN RUSH CHEETAHS!

Spirit Day

We will have a Spirit Day the first Friday of every month.  The KEEPERS OF THE CHEETAHS will keep their cheetahs until the first Thursday, at which point they will be collected and then awarded on Spirit Day to the next most-spirited classes at Ben Rush.

Stay tuned for more information about Ben Rush clothing orders in January.

PASSPORT CHECK DAY on DECEMBER 17th

Where in the world is Somalia?

Note that this is an easy month because Levels 2&3 are combined; a good month to try for Level 5. Keep up the momentum! Click here for list of countries.

We can always use more volunteers.  Please contact Ellen Krumm at ejkrumm@hotmail.com for more information or to sign-up.

THE GARBAGEMAN COMETH!

The school will be participating in a special assembly provided by Washington State's Solid Waste Division on Tuesday, December 8th.

1st assembly for grades K-2 takes place at 8:45-9:30 AM
2nd assembly for grades 3-6 takes place at 9:45-10:30 AM

This FREE, live assembly show for grades K-6 will engage our students and staff alike as they learn how to make choices that contribute to a cleaner school, community, and planet. Our students will learn how to:

    · keep waste out of the landfill through reuse and recycling.
    · separate your "trash" for recycling, reuse, composting, & garbage.
    · get everyone in the family and in the classroom to participate!

All students will have fun taking part in the Earth Challenge and intermediate students will learn the connection between waste reduction and recycling practices and global warming.

To learn more about this presentation and what you can do at home, please check it out!

International Night Coordinator Needed

We are looking for a parent (or grandparent) to coordinate the school's annual International Night. (Two parents could do this together.) You would organize families in sharing dishes, crafts, dances, etc. from the large international community represented among our student body. It is a one night night taking place at the school in the early spring....date to be determined.  If you are interested, please contact thowling2@hotmail.com to learn more.

Annoucement of 100% PTA Membership

Congratulations, families and staff of Ben Rush!!
The PTA is proud to announce that we have reached our goal
of 100% PTA membership for this school year!

We've reached 100% for the three years in a row!

Thank you for believing that together we can build an excellent learning community for every student at Ben Rush. We are creating a great partnership between our families and our school. By joining PTA and supporting the programs sponsored and funded by the PTA, you are having a direct and positive impact on your child's learning experiences. TOGETHER we are helping our children be successful!

100% membership shows that the voice of our school is strong in support of improving education for the children of Rush and for children all across our state. Ben Rush's voice will be heard in Olympia when legislators and government leaders are making the decisions that impact education for Washington students.

Thank you for creating possibilities for the children!

PTA MEMBERSHIP CARDS will be mailed in late December along with any receipt for your tax-deductible contribution to the Ben Rush PTA.  Your log-in and password will be on that card for access to the National PTA website.

PTA FAMILY FUN NIGHTS
Mark your 2010 calendar

JANUARY 7TH:  It's cold, it's dark early, and the neighbors want your Christmas lights down.  Now.  Seems like a great time to go ROLLER SKATING!  Join us at the Bellevue Skate King, January 7, 2010, from 6-8 PM as we skate, socialize, and eat at the snack bar!  $5 per skater, non-skaters are free.  Adults are welcome to skate.  Roller blades are $4 extra, no discount for bringing your own.  Cash only, please.  See you around the rink!  And around and around and around the rink!

FEBRUARY 4TH:  There was a farmer who had a terrific Family Fun game, and BINGO was its name-o!  B - I - N - G - O !  Bingo Night--all the free fun and prizes and popcorn you can handle--is February 4, 2010, from 7 - 8:30 PM in the gym.  Fun for the whole family!  Go ahead and eat the movie-style popcorn; we won't tell your spouse.  We won't even mention that you won this year's Valentine's Day gift playing Bingo at Rush!

MARCH 4TH:  It's time to come on down for...well, we're not quite sure what, yet.  This Family Fun Night is still in the planning stages, but we promise it will be AT LEAST as much fun as sitting home and doing nothing.  Activity suggestions?  Contact Dan and Diane at
ddorsey@sprynet.com.
