THE PTA NEEDS YOU!
Parents, please consider taking on a
larger role in your child's education by
volunteering for a leadership role in
the PTA or nominate someone who you
think would do a great job in supporting
our efforts.
Nominees will be
evaluated by a committee of Ben Rush
parents, and prospective officers
will be voted on by the PTA
membership at the next PTA General
Meeting on Thursday, April 22nd at
6:45 PM in the school library. To
nominate someone or yourself, please
contact
joy.jernigan@live.com.
All PTA committees
will also need new volunteers for
next school year. Please consider
serving on the following
committees: Communications, Health
& Welfare, Hospitality, Fundraising,
Special Events, and Education.

March is National
Nutrition Month
This month, the PTA is
sponsoring an effort to
encourage our students to
practice better nutrition.
In addition to the Nutrition
Bingo that came home (lost
it already?...click
here for a new one), we will
be conducting a veggie eating
contest (students will get
points for every veggie and
bonus points if they eat a new
veggie) and having them track
what type of foods they eat with
a simple food diary.
We will have a drawing for
prizes for individuals or
classes who complete these
projects.
Parents/families can
participate by not only helping your
child(ren) with these but also by
trying to have healthy snacks
available, being a good role model
by eating healthy, and keeping the
family active. There is more and
more research showing that eating
meals as family leads to healthier,
more well adjusted kids.

BOXTOPS NEEDED
We
all shop for groceries, sometimes two or
three times a week - or more. Now turn
those shopping trips into easy cash for
Ben Rush PTA, and encourage friends to
do the same! Just look for the Box Tops
logo on hundreds of products like
Cheerios®, Ziploc®
and Kleenex®, in almost every
aisle of the store.
All you need to do is clip and send Box
Tops to
your child's teacher or deposit them in
the PTA box in main office
- each one is worth 10¢. It adds up!
So far, this year we have earned
$345!

Parent's Lifesavers Corner
I'm starting a new article every
month featuring a service, business,
or professional who can be a
lifesaver. First one, a lice removal
company. [Anyone who has ever gone
through this process will understand
why this service could be a
lifesaver.] A new specialty salon
has opened on Mercer Island,
catering specifically to lice
removal. Make sure to bookmark this
page for future reference!!

We still need some
help!!
Passport Coordinator
Ellen Krumm is looking for a new
Passport Program
Coordinator! This is a VERY FUN
volunteer job, which she has
enjoyed immensely over the
years. Prep-work is already
being done by other people; the
program just needs a "point
person". Contact her with
questions (asking questions does
not obligate you!) at
ejkrumm@hotmail.com
Running Club
Coaches
We are in need of additional
running coaches for our
running club due to its
popularity--a new session
will be starting on April
8th. Please consider
donating one hour a week to
the school and to your
health by jogging with this
great group of student
runners every Thursday from
3:05-4:05 PM. Contact Lisa
Sturgeon at
lisasturgeon@hotmail.com.
